It’s Monday again and figured you needed some inspiration for how to start your week at the office. This commercial is hilarious ...

The Power of Intention

Excellent article by Lynne McTaggart on The Power of Intention.

And remember, ... impossible is nothing.

Research on Meditation

Yogaplus, my favorite yoga magazine, has an interesting article referencing some recent research on Meditation.

The images of monks with electrodes taped to their scalps were startling when they first appeared. Today, the ancient practice of meditation, begun in Vedic times, is attracting the attention of a growing community of scientists—and not all their study subjects wear robes. Meditation has gone mainstream: Millions of Americans practice some kind of meditation—among them school children, executives, cancer patients, prisoners, sports teams.

Ps: The link to the article above is probably not permanent as it shows the current issue’s first article and so will link to a different article with a new issue of the magazine…

Going Green Initiatives

Thanks to Al Gore’s ‘An inconvenient truth’ going green is cool. Well, it is and fortunately some insightful souls lead the way in getting practical about it. There is, of course, Treehugger. Friends of mine came up with Change your climate a day and another wonderful and intriguing initiative is Green as a Thistle.

Films that make a difference …

I just love the web. There are so many hidden treasures. Here a site that features one short film a week about life & the human spirit that makes a difference: Monday9am.tv.

Valuing the breath

Just recently I came across an article from Time Magazine on stress and it started with the following text:

“Take a deep breath. Now exhale slowly. You’re probably not aware of it, but your heart has just slowed down a bit. Not to worry; it will speed up again when you inhale. This regular-irregular beat is a sign of a healthy interaction between heart and head. Each time you exhale, your brain sends a signal down the vagus nerve to slow the cardiac muscle. With each inhale, the signal gets weaker and your heart revs up. Inhale, beat faster. Exhale, beat slower. It’s an ancient rhythm that helps your heart last a lifetime. And it leads to lesson No. 1 in how to manage stress and avoid burnout.”

It is important to note that modern medicine has finally acknowledged what the yogis have known for thousands of years, that the breath is intimately connected to the autonomic nervous system and the mind and that it is an invaluable tool to maintain good physical and mental health.

I find it great that more and more of this information is streaming into the public domain supported by the scientific community so that more of us acknowledge and learn to how to use these highly effective and non invasive techniques to create overall health and well-being while helping us deal with the demands of current day life.

Conscious diaphragmatic breathing, for example, is extremely relaxing to the autonomic nervous system and deeply calms the mind. This is the most natural and efficient way of breathing and fortunately people can learn to breathe in new ways because the breath is the only involuntary function we also have volitional control over.

Rod Stryker changes Pure Yoga into Parayoga

Rod Stryker, one of the main teachers I am currently studying with, has changed the name of his yoga style from Pure Yoga to Parayoga. On his website you can find a description of the reasoning behind it.

From August 24 till 26, 2007, Rod will give a workshop at Atelier Yoga near Geneva, Switzerland. I can highly recommend anyone to attend this workshop. Rod is an amazingly insightful and eloquent teacher with a cunning ability to integrate the various yogic disciplines in a clear and distinct fashion. Practicing yoga with him is special.

Yogananda and Yukteswar

I believe it is reasonable to assume that lots of yoga enthusiast have read ‘An autobiography of a Yogi’ by Parmahansa Yogananda. Here a short movie of him with his teacher Sri Yukteswar.

Yogic saints on youtube

The wonders of youtube ...
With some searching you can find some real treasures on youtube. Here a (very) short soundless movie with two spiritual giants Ramana Maharshi and Parmahansa Yogananda.

So I decided to blog …

An old hobby of mine used to be writing. However, not been doing much of that lately with working two jobs and all. I figured that now that I have to redo this whole site I might as well start to keep a blog and see if that will encourage me to do some more writing…
